GetIcon is a utility which extracts icons from
any .exe or .dll file containing icons. The
extracted icons may be saved to an .ico file
or saved as a .bmp file.
GetIcon has many applications. Icons may be
extracted to bitmap files for inclusion in
documentation or websites.
Icons may extracted to .ico files so that
shortcuts may have their icons changed to a
local copy of icon file. This is handy for
shortcuts to programs which exist on another
computer or server. In these cases, the icon
will not be displayed properly if the file is
not available over the network. In any case,
the icon will be displayed more rapidly and
displaying the icon will not generate the
network traffic associated with the operating
system dynamically extracting the icon from
the executable.
